More Annoyed than Amused

Cauliflower or Cabbage

Posted by parsingtime on February 4, 2009

Last night as I was trying to fall asleep:

When you come back from California I think we should be vegetarians for a while.

I feel like I’ve been eating too much beef.

Well, I don’t cook beef and no one is forcing you to order burgers.

I know. But I make bad food choices when I’m out. I can’t help it.

How can you be a vegetarian anyway, you don’t like eggplant or cauliflower or…

Hey, I like cauliflower. I eat it when it comes with pulled pork sandwiches.

Oh my god, that’s coleslaw made from cabbage.

Oh, well I’ve started to like that.

And there you have it. We are going to try being vegetarians for a while…which is fine with me but we’ll see how long it lasts when I’m making Indian style green beans and eggplant (the mushy kind that my grandmother likes because you don’t have to chew it much so it is easy on the dentures) or worse tofu.

Anyone have any good vegetarian recipes? I need all the ones I can get.

More power to you both! Vegetarian isn’t that hard and there are definitely yummy stuff out there that doesn’t require meat!
Like pad thai, you can use harder tofu and it tastes just like chicken (yes yes everything tastes like chicken but you know what I mean).
I was vegetarian for a good 2 weeks (woohoo!!) and the only reason I had to break that streak is cuz tiem was visiting.
But yah we’ve had vegetarian days and they were good 🙂 Good luck!! I’ll send over recipes if I come across some!

Pick up any of the Moosewood cookbooks- they have great recipes, with lots of easy variations/substitutions (so you don’t need the exact ingredients to make things work). I will look through my electronic files and send you the best ones 🙂
