More Annoyed than Amused

Made in China

Posted by parsingtime on July 23, 2008

The blue screen of death decided to show its ugly face on my computer twice a couple of weeks ago so I ordered a new computer. I didn’t want to order a new computer but given that the adapter has to be duct taped into the computer in order to give it power and my entire work life resides on this computer Husband convinced me I had to for the sake of my business. My computer has been working fine for the last week or so but I’m backing up all the time and live in fear that one day it just won’t turn on.

I bought a Lenovo, formerly IBM. This will be my fourth IBM laptop. I got the first when right before I graduated from college. My second one was a hand me down from Husbands work that I burned on the stove in Boston. My current one is also a hand me down from Husband’s work and is a little over four years old (which is about the life of my laptops except for the ones that I burn). So this is my first new computer since 2001. Oh course, I can’t feel too bad about this being my fourth computer in eight years because I’m still driving the car that I got when I was sixteen. <Rolls Eyes at the lack of engine power in a 1996 Sentra>

I’m nervous about having a new computer. I feel like it is one of those unnecessary expenses especially while we have school debt in an amount that could pay for 45 second of the Iraq War or an entire house hanging over our heads. Well mine only really, because Husband has a much healthier attitude toward debt! Anyway, new computer will arrive sometime today or tomorrow and I found it’s journey to be fascinating. I know most things are made in China but this is the first time a product has come directly from China into my hands.
