Music In Advertising

Posted by parsingtime on March 31, 2008

It is amazing to me what advertising has done for music. Yael Naim is now on the VH1 countdown solely because of the Mac Book Air commercials. I really love the French Horn or Trombone in this song (not sure which)…it isn’t something you hear very often.

The same goes for the Ingrid Michaelson sweater song that was in the Old Navy commercials…and of course Target is introducing The Beatles to a whole new generation.

And while we are talking about music I LOVE the Beck cover of Daniel Johnston’s True Love Will Find You in the End. I’m always surprised by the voice that comes out of his little body.

Busier

Posted by parsingtime on March 31, 2008

I thought I was busy before but I’m even busier now. We had a great time in Jackson Hole and the skiing was great.

I’ve been catching up with work and am heading back to Texas this week and next for a project. Sunday I bought enough food to feed Husband and I for the week. And then I got the call that I would need to be in Texas on Tuesday. Any bets on how much of the food will still be there when I get back Friday night? I’m going to guess all except the for the frozen pizza and bananas. Poor Husband is not culinary-ily inclined.

Anyway, things are busy though I imagine I will have some stories from Texas this week. Also, FYI I HATE how loud Husband eats his damn bananas. HATE.

Busy Busy

Posted by parsingtime on March 21, 2008

Spent the morning at the emergency clinic with Husband. He had a hives outbreak that beat all of my outbreaks by a mile (he always has to win, doesn’t he?) and combined the hives with some fainting spells and a fever. It was good times. But not really…and especially not after have to walk to the pharmacy in 30 degree weather with 40mph winds. The doctor did leave us with the ominous warning that if after taking his medication Husband felt at all short of breath we should call 911.

Interestingly, this morning when Husband was sick my first instinct was to try to get my sister on the phone. She matched yesterday at her first choice residency program and will officially be a doctor in about a month.  Yay for her and yay for me because now I have someone to call who has to listen to my neurotic self.

Husband is better now. Thanks for asking. I then had to catch up on a bunch of work, clean my apartment, and I still need to pack, throw away things that will go bad and get my hair cut (I do believe the last time I did that it was October though the weather was surprisingly similar).

And I Still Put Up With Him

Posted by parsingtime on March 18, 2008

I like this salmon, but I don’t like the stuff you put on top of it.

Stares

What?

We ate this two weeks ago and you said you loved it.

Really?

Yes, that’s why I made it again.

Oh, well I don’t think I like it anymore.

You make me so crazy.

Wax On Wax Off

Posted by parsingtime on March 15, 2008

There is nothing quite as disconcerting as going to get your bikini wax only to realize you went to high school with your waxer.

And by disconcerting I mean mortifying and embarrassing.  She was keeping a running commentary on high school and all I could think was stop talking to me while looking at my hooha.

Also I felt like I had to tip more than normal because a. she asked me what I did and b. she is a single mom (recent divorce six year old child) and c. if I didn’t she would be telling people at the reunion that not only did she see my hooha but I also didn’t tip well.

The Ides of March

Posted by parsingtime on March 15, 2008

People born on my birthday:

Andrew Jackson 7th President of the United States and my favorite president despite the whole trial of tears fiasco.

Fabio also born on this date. I think he models but only on the cover of romance novels. Gag me.

Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray. I Just Want to Fly was our high school senior song. The song sucks.

Eva Longoria we share two traits…we are both short and from Texas .

Husband had planned a wonderful weekend getaway to Montreal for my birthday and then work intruded and I have been out of town all week. I feel bad because Husband had planned the whole weekend and work ruined the surprise and the weekend. Perhaps we can go somewhere for his birthday in April instead. I do appreciate the effort though. He’s a good Husband.

Anyway, here I’m am 28. When I was ten I thought I would never make it to my 16th birthday because it seemed so far way. Now I’m 28 and I can actually imagine having a 40th birthday.

How times have changed.

Confirmed

Posted by parsingtime on March 12, 2008

My senior year of college I applied to law school and didn’t get in (I’m pretty sure this is a well known fact amongst the ten of you that read the drivel I post here in what is my own piece of narcissistic Internet idiocy) (Hello Bad Mood, meet the internet.). I ended up getting a job as a legal assistant at Big Law Firm (BLF). While at BLF I worked three trials and had met my billable hours requirement eight months into the year.  I worked a lot. Not as much as Random does now, but a lot.

During that time I realized I did not like working a lot for prolonged periods of time. I liked having time to get my hair cut or go to the grocery store.  So when I got into law school and was looking for a place to work I picked a quality of life firm. I worked normal hours (unless we had a trial), got to be casual dress wise unless I was meeting a client and generally was enjoying my job and life.

I’m here in Texas working for my old boss right now.  He basically sold his maverick law firm to a bigger firm and the office is now very BLF.  They moved to a new floor, redecorated and instituted a new dress code. You wouldn’t think that those things would make a big difference right? I mean the people are the same people it just looks fancier, but it is different. Whereas before people would pitch in wherever now everyone has a specific jobs. Mary can’t make copies because that is Bob’s job.  And Bob can’t deliver mail because that is Dan’s job.

All this is to say, I still don’t like Big Law Firms and I don’t think I will ever go back to working in one.

Laser Hair Removal :Call 713 R U Hairy?

Personally having to call that number would keep me from getting laser hair removal even if I needed it.

Brow Liner

Posted by parsingtime on March 11, 2008

Note to Self: Spend more time in the makeup aisles so you don’t think that your mother’s brow liner liquid stuff is actually a cool new shade of lipstick.

One day I will become a girl…perhaps it will be this week, the week I have worn makeup two days in a row!

Pudding Cake

Posted by parsingtime on March 10, 2008

My day was sucky…it was so stressful that I’m now eating yellow pudding cake that was a dollar at Krogers because it was old…and holy mother of god is this cake is so moist and just what I needed.

I love how my mom supports my need for cake but if my dad wants cake she looks disapprovingly at his gut and raises a brow.
