Back

Posted by parsingtime on August 31, 2007

Well we are back and we have a new neighbor. I know nothing about new neighbor except for the fact that he or she plays the flute…loudly and poorly. Husband commented that “at least they probably only play during the day” which earned him a stare from me, his wife, who supports him from working at home.

Anyway, I’m thrilled to be back and I have washed, ironed, and put away eight industrial sized loads of laundry. Husband and I also have managed to spend two grand in the 30 hours we have been back in Boston. Ah, I love the northeast and the ridiculous cost of parking.

I’m also completely back to reality after three months of not wearing a seat belt, not washing my own clothes, not making dinner or washing up. I do miss Shanker. He peeled my fruit and I am just not capable of that level of wonderfulness.

One last comment on India…the international flights all leave in the middle of the night, usually from 10:00pm to 3:00am. This means that if you wake up at a normal time like we did, say 8am, when you finally get on your flight you have already been awake 18 hours. Add that to a 9 hour flight to London, a 4 hour layover, another 7 hour flight to Boston, only four hours of fitful sleep on the plane and then a car that needs a jump from Triple A and then four bags all weighing 70lbs that need to be taken up five flights of stairs and you have a recipe for crankiness! Fortunately, Husband and I managed all that and even stayed awake until 8:00pm before succumbing to exhaustion.  I love to travel but jet lag really is a pain.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that Husband saw Scarlett Johannson at Heathrow airport.  He said everyone was staring at her but only because she looked so weird and all hunched up trying to avoid notice. He said if she had been walking like a normal person no one in the airport would have even noticed. Husband is not that observant so the fact that he noticed is pretty amazing, especially given that he only knew her as “that girl from Lost in Translation.”

Last Post from Bombay

Posted by parsingtime on August 29, 2007

We landed in India and it still smells the same. We just spent the last three hours repacking our bags trying to get everything we’ve bought into our alotted weight limit. It was not easy and I’m pretty sure that during the process Husband thought I was being an nagging bitch and I thought he was being an asswipe. But what can you do. We are friends again.

My next post will be from Boston where I’m sure the bitching will continue given that I have about 8 loads of laundry to do and have to walk that laundry up and down five flights of stairs and to another building.  That does not sound like fun. But at least we will be home!

Anniversary

Posted by parsingtime on August 26, 2007

Husband and I got married two years ago today(it’s the 27th in Thailand). Time passes by quickly it really doesn’t feel that long.

While a wedding was definitely not something I wanted, while sitting in Viva’s at the weekend market (see photos on flickr)  having a Singha, our wedding song started playing (the Moulin Rouge version not Elton John’s version — btw Viva’s plays AWESOME music and is a great place to cool down when you need a break from shopping) and Husband and I looked at each other and smiled.

If we hadn’t had a wedding we wouldn’t have had a wedding song and then we wouldn’t have random moments all over the world where we hear our song and have cheesy silly smiles.

And that would be unfortunate.

Still Loving Bangkok

Posted by parsingtime on August 25, 2007

I’ve told Husband multiple times that I love Bangkok and would live here despite the fact that he can make just about every stop on the BTS sound like some dirty sexual act.

Anyway, we have now seen the Grand Palace and various Wats. We spent part of an afternoon cooling off in Paragon watching The Bourne Ultimatum. What I love about traveling with Husband is even though we are going to some new local he still remembers it is vacation and if seeing a movie is what we want to do we do it and don’t feel bad that we missed seeing a wat or whatever.

Today we did the weekend market and the pool and both were lovely. Shopping here is fun and now I have new pillows for my couch at home! Car’s homeland rocks my world. Oh and Mr. Donut is a must in Thailand. It is so different that a Krispy Kreme but so much better.

Anyway, a few more days in Thailand before a day in India and then home. I am so ready.

Bangkok

Posted by parsingtime on August 22, 2007

We are in Thailand. I got here and realized that all my clothes smell like India which is to say they smell of a mixture of sweat (not my own because even my own in the worst possible day is not that foul) and sewage. I’m going to have to get some extra strengh tide when we get back to the US.

We just got back from Krabi which was relaxing. I had lots of 250 baht spa treatments and sat by the beach sipping pineapple coolers. It was great. And now we are in Bangkok. We are staying at a really nice hotel and they upgraded us to a suite. The whole suite is bigger than my apartment in Boston. Husband doesn’t know this but I didn’t marry him because he gave me platinum and diamonds I married him for his platinum status! Just kidding, but it is a nice perk while we have it.

Off see Bangkok today. I love Bangkok so far…it is clean and has great infrastructure and these days that’s all I need to impress me!

We are off

Posted by parsingtime on August 17, 2007

Karma has come to bite me back in the ass…it is supposed to rain and thunderstorm our first few days in Thailand. So not good. Hopefully it will just be a few showers and then sunshine. There is no point going to the beach if we have to sit inside!

I don’t imagine I’ll be posting too much over the next ten days but if anything exciting happens you’ll be the first to hear.

Overheard in Mumbai

Posted by parsingtime on August 17, 2007

Overheard at Moshe’s a cafe in Crosswords, the Borders of India.

Girl 1: (fendi glasses on her head) I love eating here at the bookstore.
Girl 2: (Louis Vuitton purse by her side) Yeah. It makes you feel like you read even if you don’t.
Girl 1: Exactly.

Cabbies

Posted by parsingtime on August 16, 2007

I officially lost it with the cab driver taking me to the gym. He tried to charge me 50 rupees for a 20 rupee ride. So I asked to see the card (which tells you the price) and saw that he was trying to cheat me, handed him 20 rupees and told him karma was a bitch and he was going to come back as a cockroach in his next life.

He looked genuinely shocked that I went off on him and definitely understood the going to hell overtones in my rant.

It is so wrong how satisfied I feel.

Simpson’s

Posted by parsingtime on August 15, 2007

We went and saw The Simpson’s movie today in the adlabs “lounge” this is basically a 500 rupee screening room with huge ass lazy boys and a little waiter who brings popcorn and ice cream when you beckon. It was probably the best movie watching experience I’ve ever had…the only thing that would have made it better is if I had been wearing pyjamas.

Anyway it was fun and of course Husband enjoyed this quote from the movie: There’s a couple of things they don’t teach you at Harvard Business School: One is to cope with defeat, the other is to handle a shot gun. I’m doing both right now.

Only three more days in India before Thailand. AM SO READY TO GET THE HELL OUT OF DODGE.

Candidates and their Wives

Posted by parsingtime on August 13, 2007

Dennis Kucinich’s wife she is 29 he is in his 60s. She has a tongue stud and believes it was fate that she met Dennis as she lived in Dennis Cottage on Dennis Lane at some point. She’s 6ft, he is short. Third Wife

Cindy McCain is at least 25 years younger than John McCain. And she is on the board of Anheuser Busch. She has the money. Third Wife

Rudy Guiliani announced his affair with Judith Nathan on TV and didn’t bother to tell his wife. They look to be approximatly the same age though. Marriage No. 3 for both of them

This guy has oral sex with an intern and a cigar and she is still married to him.

Jeri Kehn is married to the guy from Law & Order who thinks he is running for President.  Umm yeah she looks like his daughter. Third Wife.

No seriously, she really does. Can you imagine sleeping with him? It is like that SATC episode where Samantha can’t sleep with the old guy because he has a flabby ass.

I was going to further my commentary but I think the photos speak for themselves. Oh and I just threw in the Clinton’s because I felt like it was the fair thing to do. Frankly, I’m still a friend of Bill.
