More Annoyed than Amused

In what goes down as the most awkward moment of at least the last six months: telling your mother-in-law (who speaks a different language than you) that you can’t use her coupon for a manicure pedicure because you also need a bikini wax and the place you are going does both.

Then seeing the look on her face when she figures out what a bikini wax is and that you are married to her son. Priceless….in a so not good way.

Upside Down

Posted by parsingtime on December 10, 2006

Work has kicked up a notch. I was traveling last week and am flying to to multiple points across the country this week as well. It’s bad in the sense that I am way behind on my Christmas shopping et al but good in the sense that I thought the work would slow down this time of year and I wouldn’t be earning much. It is a good problem to have, though I am worried the work will encroach into my planned holiday break!

Things I’ve learned this week:

  • Flying coach sucks. I sat next to a woman who needed an extendor belt and probably two seats, fortunately for her she got to use half my seat. I also sat in front of a man with a yippy dog and next to a girl who knows Paris Hilton and cna put makeup on for two hours while on a plane.  One day I’ll take my business public and be able to buy first class seats!
  • I miss my old co-workers and working on legal cases, but I don’t miss the politics
  • My feelings regarding my abilities are easily hurt. They let me leave this weekend because they were doing substantive legal work and thought my skills might be better used next weekend when we do trial preparation (which is requires less substantive legal work).
  • I like Texas and it still feels “like home” but my real home is where my stuff and Husband are. It’s weird to know that where my parents are isn’t “home” anymore for me. MA is where Husband and my stuff reside and therefore that is home.
  • Tex Mex in Texas just can’t be beat.
  • Dating and good food is fun. Went on a date with Husband for the first time in months. We ventured far from the square and actually had a dinner together without running into anyone we know. Also, we are foodies, and really enjoy a good meal over a lot of things.
  • Airline food is not good.
  • A few of the friends I’ve started to make here in MA are people I can see myself being friends with for the long haul, which makes me feel good. I never expected to meet great friends and it is a pleasant surprise.
  • Burdicks claims to have the best hot chocolate in Boston. It is bitter and not good. La Duni wins hands down.
  • Also, we are on the coast, but that doesn’t mean the sushi is good.
  • Sometimes doing or saying the right thing, is not always right

Oh, Al Gore is coming to campus and I’m missing his speech because of work. I’m crushed since for me seeing politicians makes me swoon more than George Clooney et all ever could (yes, even bloated Al Gore makes me swoon!).

Better than the Best

Posted by parsingtime on December 10, 2006

There’s no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard,
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart,
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things,
Like a shoebox of photographs,
With sepiatone loving,
Love is the answer
At least for most of the questions in my heart ,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
It’s not always easy,
And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I’ll tell you one thing, its always better when we’re together

I like to think of myself as a relatively independent person. It always surprises me how much I miss Husband when I go out of town.  It may sound strange but I find it pretty amazing that I have the capacity to love someone as much as I love husband, given that he isn’t family (well he is now, but you know what I mean) and that I’ve only known him for a (relatively) short amount of time. It probably makes no sense, but I find it surprising.

Totally Gross

Posted by parsingtime on December 2, 2006

Imagine asking for mayo to dip your french fries in (yes, I like mayo on my fries. It’s a British thing, deal with it). Are you imagining? Okay, the mayo arrives, you dip your fry into it and get a big dollop on your fry. You then take a bite and realize that you have just eaten a big hunk of butter.

It goes down as the worst food experience of 2006.
